Alpacas as Sheep Guardians
Alpacas are herd animals meaning they adapt very quickly to new surroundings and will adopt and protect their new herd from predators such as fox. Ewes and lambs are kept together with the alpacas constantly on alert, patrolling and protecting their herd 24 hours a day.
Some farmers have reported excellent results having 2 wethered males run with their breeding ewes. Alpacas will also bond well with goats.
With the increase in lambing rates and the fact that alpacas live for up to 20 years, your investment will be quickly recovered.
